When director Daniel Patrick Carbone‘s new film Hide Your Smiling Faces premiered at Tribeca it instantly garnered a host of ★★★★★ reviews. One of them came from Rodrigo Perez of The Playlist who opens his review with the following intro: “In a strangely beautiful and unnerving moment, ‘Hide Your Smiling Faces’ opens up with an arresting visual: a close-up of a snake — its mouth wrapped around a fish, slowly struggling to swallow it whole. It’s disturbing, fascinating and the shot lingers with a sense of awe, curiosity and wonder. And it many ways, this remarkably captured moment sums up everything this striking debut feature is about.” You can read Rodrigo Perez’s review in full by visiting The Playlist. John DeFore of The Hollywood Reporter was also in attendance at the Tribeca premiere, and he agrees Hide Your Smiling Faces was far and away one of the festival’s greatest highlights.
