Movie montages are notoriously difficult to create.  Putting one together requires watching countless hours of footage, and somehow coalescing carefully selected fragments of various films together in a conceptual manner so as to create something entirely new.  The majority of them fail miserably and result in nothing more than pure scholck, but this brand new compilation of 2011’s greatest films put together by Matt Shapiro is swiftly going to go down in history as one of the greatest montages ever made.  Shapiro’s “Cinemascape 2011” began to go viral yestarday (so don’t be surprised if you start seeing this everywhere), so hopefully this will lead to Matt securing his rightful place in the Pantheon of editing geniuses.  Pure amazingness.  This deserves to be played at the upcoming Oscars — or at the very least, they should bring Matt on board to put together the Academy Awards opening montage.  Clearly, there’s no one who can do it better.  Matt Shapiro has been whipping up his brilliant “Cinemascapes” since 2005 and you can watch them all, and more, by visiting his YouTube Channel.
