I found this brilliant infographic today on Niceone’s website.  It’s an interactive map showing the world and the movement of refugees from country-to-country (i.e. each country has “Arrivals” and “Departures”).  Click on the year on the bottom that interests you, then move your cursor to the country you’re interested in to get the stats. The Ontario Science Center has released video that was brought to them by a local birdwatcher.  The footage shows what appears to be a white horse with a horn on its head: Amateur video depicting what could be one of the most elusive legendary creatures, the unicorn, has been captured on film by a Toronto resident. The video in question, shot by a local birdwatcher, Peter Hickey-Jones, shows what appears to be a white horse with a single horn on its head emerging from the trees in the Don Valley wetland. “I was trying to film a pileated woodpecker when…

The Huffington Post has a great article on the plants that are best able to detoxify the air in your home: Cigarette smokers, nail polish buyers, and eager home fixer-uppers; you might want to listen up. The air in you house could be swimming with dangerous chemicals that cause dizziness, headaches, compromise your immune system, and even eventually lead to cancer. While outdoor air contains low levels of benzene from motor vehicle exhaust and industrial emissions, it can be found in higher levels indoors. It comes from products like glue, paint, furniture wax, detergents and cigarette smoke. Benzene can cause…

National Geographic goes inside one of the greatest natural marvels on the planet – a giant crystal cave described as “Superman’s Fortress”, with magnificent crystals up to 36 feet long and weighing 55 tons. A team of experts venture into the cavern, enduring scorching-hot temperatures that could kill a human after just 15 minutes of exposure. They’ll push the boundaries of physical limitation to explore a crevasse that could lead to another – and perhaps more spectacular – crystal cave. I wrote a piece on this cave a while back focusing on how it was made possible.  Scientists have proven…

Lamborghini just unveiled its newest concept car.  Made entirely of carbon fibre and reinforced plastic, the “Sesto Elemento” is a highly angular and futurist design. Ironically, the word “Lamborhini” is Italian for the expression “Brent the blogger rightfully deserves this”.  Any day now, the Lamborghini corporation should realize the poetic full-circleness of leaving one outside my front door with a big red bow. See more photos at Fubiz.

I’ve always had a deep fascination with the history of the Fabergé Egg.  I remember back in the late 90s I went to the Forbes Gallery in NYC where they have a stunning collection of them and I was blown away.  I thought I’d share with you this little bit of history about the history of the Eggs and their place in the history of jewelry: A Fabergé Egg is any one of the thousands of jeweled eggs made by the House of Fabergé from 1885 through 1917. The majority of these were miniature ones that were popular gifts at…

Came across this story on Grant McCracken’s website (via PSFK): Mikal Hart built a magical box.  This box.  It’s a box that knows where it is.  It remains closed and locked until it is transported to exactly the right place on the planet.  Then it springs open.  If we push that button anywhere else on the planet, the book stays locked.  And a figure appears in the window.  It’s up to us to surmise that this is a measure in miles and that the box wants to go home.  We are allowed to push the button 50 times.  After that…
