There are music videos, and then there are Music Videos. Director Elliot Dear has come out miles ahead of anyone else this year with the mindblowing visual narrative he created for the song “Bats In The Attic (Unravelled)” by King Creosote & Jon Hopkins. It must be said that the song itself is by far one of the most beautiful of the year as well. It’s so good, in fact, I wish it was at least one minute longer. A heartfelt requiem to a love lost, and perhaps a lifetime of regrets, “Bats In The Attic (Unravelled)” tells the story of a man overwhelmed by the memories and emotions flooding the attic of his mind, and is brought to extraordinary life with Elliot Dear’s journey of a ghostly young boy on a bicycle travelling along a sandy trail. Symbols of innocence, nature, hopes, haunting memories, and memories yet to be opened, permeate his mind to the point where fate decides enough is enough. I cannot champion this video enough.
